Mongolia is a country of wild and untamed nature. Despite its enormous size, it is inhabited by the same amount of people as Estonia (Mongolia is 100 times bigger than Estonia). Over 40% of its territory lacks roads or any kind of transport. People are gathered in small enclaves around the capital and near the Russian border. The country is not frequently visited by foreign tourists but it has a lot to offer. Main attractions include Gondan Monastery- a unique Buddhist temple in Ulaanbaatar, the ruins of Karakoram- the ancient city of Genghis Khan, that gave its name to the surrounding mountains, the Gobi desert, archeological sites of Bayanzag ("The Flaming Cliffs"), Hövsgöl Lake and picturesque building complex of Erdene Dzuu in Harhoin. Tourists will surely appreciate visiting the Nomad camps and horse-riding demonstrations performed by members of the local clans.
